You know the old saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? I decided to make some lemonade the other day. [Rhonda, if you are reading this, I wrote this post the evening before you posted your Lemonade post this past Friday. I tried to change the title, but couldn’t think of a better one as it was basically the premise for the post. Weird, huh?]
I had to pick up my [expletive deleted] truck and kiss a whole bunch of money goodbye, so I decided to have some fun. Picking up the truck required coordinating with our other driver the logistics of getting the truck, returning the rental truck and getting me back to my car, while staying on time with our regularly scheduled pick ups and deliveries. As a result, I had some downtime before I could head home so I decided to improvise a bit. I was already under-dressed and was wearing my DKNY jeans (no one can tell they are women’s jeans). So I stopped at one of my thrifts and bought a cute turtleneck and necklace, put them on in the car and decided to do some shopping (but not buying) in hybrid mode.
After all the truck stuff was done, I headed to the mall, no makeup, no wig, but I wore my sunglasses for a bit of anonymity. I started at Victoria’s Secret, had a bra fitting and tried on a few different style bras for future consideration. Then over to Macy’s to try on a few dresses. The SA was so sweet. She complemented me on my necklace and said she liked my style (wearing clothing I just purchased on the fly). She set me up with a fitting room and I tried on a few dresses, enjoying every minute of it. I asked for her opinion and told her I’d be back, dressed, next week to get a feel for the proper fit. While chatting, she turned me on to a local consignment store I had never visited, so off I went!
It was the type of consignment store that displayed so many complete outfits, top, jewelry, sweater and slack or a dress, necklace and a jacket, etc. I always love stores like that as I gather outfit ideas based on my extensive wardrobe. I talked for a while with the owner and headed home feeling happy, having shaken off the carnage my bank account took earlier in the day. That should last until I get the credit card bill…..YIKES! Remind me, when does life get easy?
Oh well, lemonade anyone? There’s a bottle of vodka somewhere……
