October 16, 2019 – The LGBTQ Heritage Day is an awards ceremony that honors and celebrates LGBTQ+ individuals who have an ongoing commitment to the Greater Northeast Ohio LGBT community.
As “out” LGBTQ+ community members, they have made significant contributions in the areas of Advocacy & Activism, Health & Wellness, Service, Arts & Culture, and/or Workplace Inclusion in and around Northeast Ohio. The ceremony is held annually during the second week in October to coincide with National LGBT History Month and Coming Out Day. The ceremony was held in the rotunda in Cleveland City Hall.
So on a cold rainy day, I went with outfit number three of ten outstanding outfits in nine October days. This dress has a vintage vibe to it and was comfortable and kinda “me”. I got a few complements on it this day.
I headed downtown and had my dinner at a restaurant near City Hall. I enjoyed a few Happy Hour drafts and a great salad as I sat cross-legged at the bar. It’s nice just sitting there, people milling all around and I am paid no special attention. Afterward, I was fortunate to have a short walk to the event in a cold, windy, driving rain.
I saw quite a few friends and acquaintances there. As always, it was quite nice to relax and chit chat. I find myself growing naturally into this person I am and am becoming. Male or female, I am comfortable in my skin. That was not always the case. Not for a very long time.
The ceremony was very inspirational. I was honored to be there. After I milled around a bit and congratulated a few of the award recipients, I headed home.
No great story, nothing noteworthy, but a great evening all in all.
