65th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner

Since 1927, The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio has worked to eliminate bias, bigotry and racism. Our programs promote understanding, respect, and equity. These programs empower thousands of Northeast Ohioans to create communities where all people are connected, respected, and valued. Proceeds from the Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner help sustain our school and youth programs that serve over 12,000 youth and youth-serving professionals in 11 counties.

Beginning in 1949, The Diversity Center has honored individuals of outstanding dedication and community service in our region at the Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner. Honorees exhibit an extensive record of involvement in civic, charitable, volunteer, and professional organizations. Each honoree has greatly contributed to the improvement of human relations among diverse groups in Northeast Ohio.

November 13, 2019 – I am blessed to volunteer for the center at this annual event, having done so initially last year. I wish there was more I could do for them, but am happy to contribute in my (very) small way. The weather had been very challenging with a great deal of early snow. I decided not to attend an event the prior day due to the conditions, so was excited to get out this day.

My dress, a Calvin Klein beauty, picked up an my favorite consignment store a few months back. Due to the cold, I added the sweater at the last minute and was delighted with my presentation. I’ll allow the outfit to speak for itself!

Last year I was at the registration table for what is a very hectic hour or so. This year, I was able to play hostess, guiding guests to the proper line, pointing out coat check and answering questions. Given the obvious accepting crowd, the night was one of many complements and me smiling the entirety of the time there. I love specific complements and got many of those. The blue in my dress, my earrings, my makeup, all made me feel special.

The banquet is always inspirational. Once everyone is registered, we are invited guests. I enjoyed a few glasses of wine and a great dinner. Plus the company of people I just met this evening. I also made a few high level connections, but I always seek them and remain realistic as they rarely go anywhere.

I had the best time and am so happy to pitch in as I was able. This is a very worthwhile organization, indeed!!
