October 25, 2019 – Not only will tomorrow be a volunteer double header, this day was as well. I agreed to help the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation set up the event at First Energy Stadium in the morning. This was done as myself, complete with a week long salt and pepper beard. I will certainly look very different in a few hours and tomorrow when I see these folks again! Another of my charities where I am now both of me.
Then I headed home and got my run in and a complete shave in preparation for the weekend. From this point forward, until I arrive home very early Sunday morning, no male clothing whatsoever. I got dressed from the neck down in a favorite white sweater with pink and chartreuse stripes, black skinny jeans, boots with heels and all my jewelry. My head….nothing but me. No pretense at all. I checked into my hotel for the evening (necessary to pull off three events in 36 hours) looking like this. I went to the adjacent bar, sat between two couples, made some idle chit chat, enjoyed a glass of wine and bowl of soup and returned to my room to get ready. No issues.

Outfit eight of my October run, my Halloween outfit, I don’t do costumes. By the way, I didn’t attend the event associated with outfit seven, so my outfit count is a little off. Work with me here. You have to understand, for the entirety of my life, I have essentially despised Halloween. Even as a kid, I rarely wore a costume. So my Halloween OUTFIT, filled the bill. Made me happy. Worked in the context of the evening. Was a joy to wear!
So it was time to head over to The Tangier. Opened in 1948, The Tangier has been providing the Akron community with food and entertainment for three generations. This historic complex is Akron’s leading creative event center, offering new menus with an artistic flair and a multi-faceted, off-site catering and special event service.
The 11-room facility – approximately 60,000 square feet – plays host to a variety of popular events, from wedding receptions, corporate galas and sales meetings to a mix of entertainment at The World-Famous Cabaret, which has been a local showplace for top-name entertainers such as Tina Turner, The Temptations, Charlie Daniels, The Scintas, Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons, Michael Stanley (seen this), 38 Special, The Platters, The Righteous Brothers, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, James Brown, and Natalie Cole. I saw one of my favorites, The Tubes, here. I do love me some Tubes!
When at Akron Pride recently, someone mentioned this event to me. So I sent off an email and here I am working the event. This is the 16th anniversary of this party, featuring two charities annually. You need to understand, I am walking in to the event knowing not one single person. No one. In a wedding dress. I was treated very well, but often mistaken as a “he”, never derisively. It was assumed by most I was wearing a costume. One guy told me I even smelled like a woman. I told him that was kinda the idea.
My job for the evening was to check in the VIPs. Good gig! Once my job was done, it took maybe an hour, I became a VIP. The food and the drink was plentiful. Since I had a short drive to my hotel (thank goodness!), I overdid it a bit. The hangover the next morning was a doosey! I ran into a few people I did know and made plenty of friends. You can see from the photos below I had no problem getting to know people pretty quickly.

One very long day in the books and one to go!
