Toast of The Town

October 26, 2019 – Yes, another story from the same day. Toast of the Town is the annual wine-tasting gala for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Northeast Ohio chapter. The event brings in over 400 guests for an evening filled with mission, food, prizes, and support in funding research toward cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. I am deeply honored to work for the people that coordinate volunteers for the organizations I work for. This one is beyond special. Outside of the woman I “work” for, whom I didn’t know when I initially reached out, I knew no one going into this except a fellow serial volunteer friend of mine.

So I had to do an outfit change on the fly here as we discussed, the final outfit of my ten outfits in nine day run this past October. I am truly blessed to do what I am able to do, to wear what I am able to wear, to be who I am able to be, to meet who I am able to meet.

Again, quite a few real, meaningful, fun, uplifting conversations about myself, one of which was very similar to the one I had early that day at the previous event. Another lovely woman who knew she needed to get to know me as soon as she met me. My job this time was to sell raffle tickets for a beer cooler, full of beer (it was a like one you’d see in a store). That, of course, gave me ample opportunity to talk with people. Male, female, young, middle aged and old, all engaged me in a very friendly fashion. Chit chat a bit longer than simply selling the tickets. I also sat just to the right of the main stage, so there was no missing me at all.

Once I had completed my task, I was beat. I felt like I was gone for a week and my feet were killing me, the result of 14 hours in heels. The weather was cold, rainy and windy. My walk back to my car in that weather was not fun, but getting home, seeing The Angel Known as My Wife and getting back to normal was very welcome.

When I get the opportunity to take an unusual picture, I like to take advantage. I figured I would never again get this opportunity to take these pictures!

We’ll recap this weekend tomorrow.
