December 15, 2019 – So that 5AM alarm goes off and I have to get about my tripleheader for the day. First up, I volunteered to help with a 5K for The Arthritis Foundation, so I had to get up and dressed in my race clothes, this was a non-Kandi activity. I have worked for these wonderful people in both modes and no one cares a bit. I shook the slumber, had some coffee and breakfast and headed to work. My role there was to help with the VIPs (based on amount of funds raised) prior to running the race myself. I made some new friends and really enjoyed myself. Then it was race time, the snow and wind kicked in so I decided running safely was most important (traction was not good) instead of trying to be fast. Well, lo and behold I accomplished both and really enjoyed the run. This doesn’t happen often (first half, first full marathon, a personal best time) but I felt a euphoria when I finished the race. I hung around a while for awards, met some others and talked to the folks running the event.
Then I doubled back home and got dressed for the second North Coast Men’s Chorus concert. This time I had both more volunteers and more responsibility, acting also as the Volunteer Coordinator. Fortunately I was feeling better. Now I had planned for months to wear a lovely sleeveless CK knee length LBD, but the weather was a bit challenging, so I pivoted to the outfit below. It was both really pretty and very comfortable, a wise choice!
The show as always was fun, again renewing many friendships as well as attending to my duties. Here I am with one of my volunteer friends, Kim and another friend of mine, Mr. Chaplin.
My final stop was a cocktail party for Mercury Theatre Company. I was invited in appreciation of my help throughout the year. This was a great deal of fun. I had three lengthy conversations with ladies that were quite taken with me and curious about my story. This has happened to me before when attending a Mercury event outside the theater.
One woman had wanted to talk to me at a show, but said she was too shy. Really? Anyway, I always encourage questions, make sure they know they cannot offend me and I will answer any questions honestly. That is the only way others learn about me and those like me. I think I was there for about 2 1/2 hours and was engaged in conversation the entirety of the time I was there. I shared pictures of me (the real me) and my family. I am very proud of myself and my family.
So all in all, it was a great day and one that further exhausted me. I have two more smaller outings and then we shut Kandi down until 2020. I am looking forward to the break a bit, looking forward to family time, will spend some additional time in the gym and playing pickleball and will frankly, be bored a great deal of this time as we are not working for about a week and a half. The blog continues on with some fresh essays, some golden oldies and a few friends checking in.
