Solo Day

By Marie Anne Greene

TODAY (Yesterday) was Sunday, but it was not a typical or normal Sunday and as most readers know it has been changing to degrees for the past two months, with the closure of the Houses of Worship being the most noticeable. Many of whom have successfully transitioned to broadcasting their Services and Gatherings via the Internet and other electronic means. Being generous this “Substitution” may occupy up to three hours of the theoretical 16 active hours we have in any given day.

Some people can sometimes be stressed by being confined alone or with from one to perhaps six other humans and perhaps a pet or two. However, there is another percentage of the population that routinely live alone by their own choice or circumstance, although even this percentage such as Our Marie crave interaction with other persons or animals and most of all need to have activity beyond reading a book particularly when “imposed” isolation stretches on seemingly interminably. This is where Marie found herself this particular Sunday and this then is the story of how she maintained her “sanity and contentment level”.

Normally, Marie arose about seven and dressed in “Walking Clothes”, jeans or sweats, shirt/blouse, and jacket if the weather is cool. The Mode of the morning is selected by whim and weather but foot wear is always tennis shoes although the color will complement either mode. The length and duration of the walk is constant, however the starting gate – either the side door to car port and then the jogging trail through the woods, or out the frosted glass front door to the porch and then the winding slate footpath through the lawn to the sidewalk & the one lane – one way black topped roadway that winding through the Development which the designer graciously dubbed the “Hilltop Plantation”.

This morning it was pink sneakers, red jeans, a yellow ribbed pullover and matching beret. (Our Gal can be quite colorful sometimes. Nes Pa).

Having completed the trek without meeting another early morning adventurer, it was time for a warm soaking bubble bath and a glass of Pink Grapefruit in a champagne flute. (A Girl has to maximize even the smallest pleasure). Now it is only 10:30 AM and full day ahead. Decided to spend some time reading a chapter or two of a “Chick” Book by Nora Roberts while occasionally sipping an Orange Pekoe tea while in a comfortable Rocking Chair on the front porch. Marie selected a Yellow off the shoulder flouncy Sun Dress and sandals.

Although the sun was out and the sky a clear blue, this little trip into the world of female fantasy only lasted about 30 minutes as the gentle breeze turned in a gusty and chilly branch bending mini-gale. Our Gal quickly ducked into the cottage and after rolling back the bed coverings, she stripped the sheets, and carried the bundle to the laundry room depositing them in the washer deciding this was a good choice until the bad weather passed.

After punching the appropriate buttons, she noted the gale had passed as confirmed by the weather channel lady and decided a leisurely stroll around the Lily Pond with its Water Sprouting Feature. This decision prompted a change in attire. Our Gal chose a flowing near-ankle length peasant style skirt and a white gazey flowing sleeved blouse with a burnt orange scalloped neckline – almost off the shoulder three quarter sleeves. She finished it off with a wide red leather belt and open toed taupe 2 ½ inch wedges.

Taking a last look in the bathroom mirror after making the change, discovered an absolute NO, NO, for a lady of style, which Our Gal strives to be. The matching burnt orange brassiere with its embroidered scalloped design voided the Lady-Like rule. It showed very predominantly through the thin white gauzy blouse. An immediate change was required. A white satin bra was quickly substituted and our Gal resumed her exit and grabbed her pocket camera and tucking the small kodak, house keys, her Girl wallet and lipstick into her purse headed out to the pond and park area.

The stroll was very pleasant and highly enjoyable with the breeze now reduced to a gentle tucking at the blouse, particularly felt at her womanly breast line and the occasional swirl of the second-lower-tier of the skirt. What a glorious feeling of femininity.

As Marie approached the Pond and its large adjacent expansive green area, she noticed two young families, each with two children – a boy and a girl all probably under six running around one was playing with a Nerf Football the other a red Frisbee. The two groups were playing separately on opposite ends of the spacious green with one of them aided in their respective chase by a Golden Cocker Spaniel. Overall a pleasant setting for a lazy spring Sunday afternoon.

Continued Monday!
