It was the day after Christmas and all the creatures were stirring. My wife was going to dinner and a movie with a neighbor, and my two sons had plans for a cousins night out, which left me at home by myself.
But not for long. I like to get out when opportunities present themselves. I texted my GG friend Michelle to see if she wanted to meet for drinks after she was done with work. She agreed and suggested a nearby cafe and a 6:30 meeting time.
I knew what to wear. We met a week prior for some retail therapy. I had a Macy’s $10 off coupon and a couple of Target dresses from the deep discount racks. She joined me in the change room and I tried on about five or six dresses. She narrowed the choices to three and we both agreed on the same dress. After the coupon, and with tax, it was $18 and change.
I love the dress and so does Michelle. I thought I did it justice (even though when I go out I know I’m generally the only one out wearing a dress and stockings).
The cafe had a couple of bands playing and it was reasonably crowded. It was also in my hometown so there was a possibility of someone I know being there (I did see a couple of faces I thought I recognized). But I’ve become a lot more comfortable in crowds so it didn’t really faze me.
Michelle and I ordered margaritas and a couple of dishes to nibble on, and caught up on our Christmases. After the food arrived, Michelle’s boyfriend Scott joined us. We drank, ate, chatted, and listened to the bands. As it turns out, the next day was Michelle’s birthday, so we had a second reason to celebrate.
Always fun to get dressed up and get out with Michelle.
As a bonus, when I looked at the tab, at the bottom it read the server’s name, and then added “the ladies sitting near the exit sign”.
